Michael Podein graduated with honors from Michigan State University and Thomas M. Cooley Law School. He has spoken on numerous occasions for the Michigan Trial Lawyers Association and Michigan State University; appeared on the "Ask the Lawyer" program.
He has given speeches to unions on workers' comp and related issues, led "The People's Law School" classes for citizens who wanted to learn more about the law and is the Former Chairman of the Grand Rapids Bar Association's Workers' Compensation Section.
